#TRAILERCHEST: Captive State has a very dull, unoriginal trailer… until those final five seconds

Rory Cashin

Captive State

Okay. Now you’ve got us, trailer.

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Captive State.

Plot’s It All About? Okay, we’ve all seen enough trailers to know how this works. And things kick off here no differently, with the trailer editors matching the calming, robotically delivered words of the narrator lady telling us that America is a much better place, with images of America in the absolute doldrums.

The trailer then tells us to give thanks, and we get flashes of the acting talent involved, and the whole thing has a very The Purge vibe going on. So far, so yawn.

But then, that final shot happens, with the folks in the Chicago arena raising a hand to their chest, to what you think is going to be for the National Anthem. Except it isn’t. It absolutely is not.

Once the reveal has been made, your brain will make the rapid comparison to another movie that we don’t want to spoil here (hint, it has a number in the title, but it isn’t a sequel), and if Captive State can continue to hold the comparison to that movie, then we could be in for something very special here.

Starring: John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, Machine Gun Kelly, Alan Ruck, Kevin Dunne, James Ransone.

Directed by: Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes)

Irish and UK release date: 12 April 2019

Enjoy…
