Check out the first image of Ben Foster as disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong

Stephen Frears' upcoming biopic already looks the part...

Here at JOE we’re really looking forward to Stephen Frears’ as yet untitled biopic of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong.

The film’s promoters obviously realised this and so have released the first image from this month’s shoot, showing leading man Ben Foster as Armstrong, complete with the famous cyclist’s gaunt look and iconic yellow jersey.

Worryingly though, he doesn’t appear to be wearing a helmet or have stabilisers on his bike, two things that we’re pretty sure are against the rules.

Not as against the rules as all of those illegal drugs he took though.

Frears’ film is based on the brilliant book ‘Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong’ by Irish journalist David Walsh, with Chris O’Dowd playing the man that Armstrong not-so-affectionately nicknamed ‘Little Troll.’

The plot will follow Armstrong’s extraordinary story, the truth of which has only just recently come to light, beginning in the early ’90s, covering his famous Tour victories and battle with cancer, before eventually tackling the doping scandal that ruined his name.

The film is expected to cross the finish line (IT’S A SUBTLE CYCLING REFERENCE) and arrive in Irish cinemas in 2014.
