Chris Pratt returns to screens in massive sci-fi epic The Tomorrow War

Another blockbuster originally set for cinemas is heading to a streaming platform.

While Chris Pratt did lend his voice to Pixar animation Onward, the leading man has not appeared in a film or TV since Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

That’s set to change this July as he will be starring in new blockbuster The Tomorrow War, a sci-fi with a pretty intriguing premise.

The plot synopsis reads: “The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species.

“The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight.”

Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Pratt’s character) who teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski, The Handmaid’s Tale) and his estranged father (the always great J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

Directed by Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie), The Tomorrow War was originally due to be released in cinemas on Christmas Day 2020 but was delayed because of, you guessed it, Covid-19.

Amazon has since acquired the film though and will be releasing it on Prime Video worldwide on 2 July, 2021
