Competing at the Academy Awards this weekend, the film stars Domhnall Gleeson.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 14 March) is Retirement Plan, the acclaimed animated Irish short film, which will be competing at the Oscars this weekend.

The debut effort of Dublin-based director John Kelly, the seven-minute movie revolves around Ray (voiced by Domhnall Gleeson, Ex Machina), a middle-aged man living an overstimulated, energy-poor life.

In the throes of this, he fantasises about everything he would love to do in retirement, once he finally has the 'time'.

The short "unfolds as a meditative stream of possibilities, exploring the beauty, curiosities and fears we long to embrace when confronted with an escalating awareness of our own finite mortality", the plot synopsis describes.

Retirement Plan had its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh, before playing at several film festivals, including the prestigious SXSW, where it picked up two awards.
