Odds slashed on Cillian Murphy becoming the next James Bond

He's got our backing, anyway.

With that in mind, Cillian Murphy could probably do worse than landing another steady gig than donning the world's most famous tuxedo. Yep, it's the latest round of the 'Who will succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond?' rumour mill, and we're very much on board with the newest odds. Online bookmaker Betway has confirmed that Murphy is now at 9/4 to be the next Bond, once Craig moves on as expected after the next one, which is currently set for release in April 2020. Tom Hiddleston is the only name ahead of Murphy in the pack, and will all due respect, that whole Taylor Swift fiasco should have ruled him out of the running long ago. Murphy is listed ahead of the likes of Idris Elba - who Bond author Anthony Horowitz previously labelled "too street" to play the role - Tom Hardy, and Richard Madden. “The two Toms, Hiddleston and Hardy, had been battling it out for favouritism in the next James Bond betting for some time, but Cillian Murphy has surged into contention of late and now has a leading chance of being named 007," says Betway man Alan Alger, who presumably knows if any of this will actually have a knock-on effect. “The Peaky Blinders star was originally priced at 16/1, which was then cut to 7/1 early in the new year before shortening to 10/3 last month, and the latest spell of support has seen him backed in to be clear second-favourite for the role at 9/4."
