#TRAILERCHEST: Well, here it is, the first trailer for Climax, without a doubt the craziest movie of 2018

Rory Cashin

Attractive people doing drugs, having an orgy, and killing each other. What’s not to love?

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Climax.

Plot’s it all about?

Good grief, where to begin?

Well, writer/director Noe is the man behind some of the most incendiary cinema of the last few decades, including Irreversible, Enter The Void and Love, which ranged from including a violent murder taking place in the middle of a hardcore S&M nightclub, to a sex scene filmed from inside the woman’s vagina, he is definitely one of the more original filmmakers working today.

The official synopsis is as follows:

“From director Gaspar Noé comes a hypnotic, hallucinatory, and ultimately hair-raising depiction of a party that descends into delirium over the course of one wintry night. In Climax, a troupe of young dancers gathers in a remote and empty school building to rehearse.

“Following an unforgettable opening performance lit by virtuoso cinematographer Benoît Debie and shot by Noé himself, the troupe begins an all-night celebration that turns nightmarish as the dancers discover they’ve been pounding cups of sangria laced with potent LSD.

“Tracking their journey from jubilation to chaos and full-fledged anarchy, Noé observes crushes, rivalries, and violence amid a collective psychedelic meltdown. Starring Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde, Kingsman, Star Trek Beyond) and a cast of professional dancers, Climax is Noé’s most brazen and visionary statement yet.”

Yeah, the trailer really does a good job of showing that, and the early, almost universally positive reviews (88% on Metacritic at the time of writing) have described it as “Step Up directed by the Marquis de Sade with a Steadicam”.
