Common sense prevails as Love/Hate guard won’t face disciplinary action

Garda management have cleared Detective Kieran O’Reilly of any wrongdoing after appearing in the hit show Love/Hate.

JOE

Garda management have cleared Detective Kieran O’Reilly of any wrongdoing after appearing in the hit show Love/Hate.

The 35 year-old starred as Garda Ciaran Madden in the RTE show, and because he is a member of the Garda National Drug Unit, management launched an investigation to see if he should face any disciplinary action for appearing in the programme.

It is understood that O’Reilly has now been cleared, though the Irish Independent reports that Garda top brass are now looking at bringing in regulations that would restrict Gardai from appearing in dramas that focus on police activity.

Currently there is no regulation to prevent Gardai from appearing in fictional dramas, and introducing such a regulation now is seen among many Gardai as a petty move and a humiliating climbdown.
