It was hard not to be moved after watching this.
Fans of Damien Dempsey or anyone who’s seen him perform or talk on national radio or television will know that he holds nothing back.
He’s honest, he’s emotional and he puts everything into his performances, all traits that were evident in an interview on the Tommy Tiernan show on Wednesday night.
During the course of their conversation, Dempsey was almost moved to tears talking about the last time he cried, which happened to be very recently following an encounter with a friend’s brother, who was battling to give up drugs.
Damien told of how, after the three of them spent some time together, he was moved by a text from his friend to thank him for sharing some of his wisdom with his friend's brother and to reveal that he was on a much better path.

If that wasn’t moving enough, Damien also gave an impromptu delivery, A Capella, of a song of his called 'Chris and Stevie', a powerful tribute to male bonding and grief.
Again, the emotion was there for all to see…

The interview was the latest illustration of Tiernan’s ability to get the best out of his interviewees despite not having any time to prepare beforehand and, once again, viewers were thoroughly impressed.
