His last film will be the upcoming, Phantom Thread, which has a Christmas day release.
Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis has announced his retirement from acting.
According to Variety, a spokeswoman for the actor, Leslee Dart, said in a statement: “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”
The statement was released on Tuesday evening just before 9pm and the Day-Lewis did not give any exact reason as to why he was retiring from acting.
According to his spokesperson, Day-Lewis plans to participate in promotion for his new movie, Phantom Thread, which is expected to be an awards season contender
The Wicklow-based actor was a five-time nominee for Best Actor at the Oscars and took home the coveted trophy three times for 1989’s My Left Foot, 2007’s There Will Be Blood and for 2012’s Lincoln.
