Daryl McCormack cast in Twister sequel

It’s a good time to be Irish in Hollywood right now.

Irish actor Daryl McCormack is set to star alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twisters, a sequel to 1996’s disaster flick Twister.

The Oscar-nominated original starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Carey Elwes and Philip Seymour Hoffman focused on a group of amateur storm chasers who get caught up in disaster during a severe storm in Oklahoma. Earning nearly $500 million worldwide, it was the second-highest grossing film of 1996.

The film is particularly remembered for its visual effects and soundtrack which earned it two Oscar noms – Best Visual Effects and Best Sound. It ended up losing to Independence Day and The English Patient respectively.

The sequel is billed as a “new chapter” but the plot is being kept under wraps for now. Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos and Brandon Perea are also cast. Minari director Lee Isaac Chung will helm the flick. Chung also directed an episode of The Mandalorian.

The casting news is yet another example of Irish stars making waves in Hollywood and nobody deserves his turn more than McCormack.

The Tipperary man starred alongside Emma Thompson in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, for which he was nominated for leading actor at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards. He was also nominated for an IFTA for his supporting role in Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters.

McCormack started out his career in Fair City, where he played Pierce Devlin for 36 episodes in 2015 and 2016.

Twisters is currently locked in for a July 19, 2024 release.
