S2 of Tom Hardy's crime drama scores high Rotten Tomatoes score

The new season landed on streaming this week.

The second season of MobLand, the Tom Hardy-starring crime drama, is earning very positive reviews, scoring a high 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Created by Ronan Bennett (The Day of the Jackal, Top Boy) and directed in part by Guy Richie (The Covenant, In The Grey, Snatch), the Paramount+ series sees Hardy play fixer, Harry Da Souza.

He is employed by a powerful organised crime family, led by Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan, GoldenEye) and his wife Maeve (Helen Mirren, The Long Good Friday).

When a member of a rival crime family disappears, all signs point to Conrad's reckless, impulsive grandson, Eddie (Anson Boon, The Good Boy). Harry must navigate the fallout of Eddie's actions, which may lead to an all-out gang war.

Also part of Mobland's ensemble cast are Amir El-Masry (Giant), Emmett J. Scanlan (Kin), Janet McTeer (Ozark), Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy), Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), Johnny Flynn (The Outfit), Lara Pulver (Sherlock), Lisa Dwan (Blackshore), Paddy Considine (House Of The Dragon), and Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office).

What were the MobLand set drama rumours?

One of Paramount+'s most popular TV programmes, MobLand season two arrives after reports of Hardy clashing with the gangster drama's showrunner Jez Butterworth and producer David C. Glasser, among others. This is said to have happened during the production of the new episodes.

In May, the website Puck News claimed these behind-the-scenes issues led to Paramount opting not to pick up the Oscar-nominee for a potential third season of MobLand. Page Six also later reported that producers approached Colin Farrell and Idris Elba as possible replacements for Hardy.

In June, however, Helen Mirren praised Tom Hardy at a public event, stating that she hoped and expected him to return for season three.

As quoted in Deadline, she said: “I love Tom. I think he’s the most amazing actor. I’ve always loved him on screen, and different actors have different processes. I’ve learned over the years that some people get things fast and other people take time.

“As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with whatever, however anyone gets there.

"Tom is a very special person. He’s got the kindest heart… I think he’s absolutely remarkable. So my support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”

As for Hardy starring in MobLand S3 again, she added: “We also have a very great writer, Jez Butterworth, a powerful, fantastic writer. So I really hope it’s going to happen.

"When you have these very powerful artistic people working together, the creative process is very challenging, and people can get their knickers in a twist, as we say. But yes, we will go forward, absolutely, and it’ll be even better.”

At the end of June, it was reported by multiple outlets that Hardy would, in fact, be back for MobLand season three.

Will there be a MobLand season three?

On 3 September 2026, Paramount+ confirmed MobLand has been renewed for a third season.

The streamer also stated that S3 will see the return of Tom Hardy, alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren.

The first episode of MobLand season two is streaming on Paramount+ now, with the rest of its 10 episodes dropping weekly on Fridays.
