Denzel Washington talks about his potential future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Rory Cashin

He is quite possibly the coolest man on Earth. And anyone who disagrees is incorrect.

Nearly 40 years into his career, and only now has Denzel Washington decided to make his first ever sequel.

Unbelievable as it may seem, The Equalizer 2 is the two-time Oscar-winner’s first time returning to a role, and we were lucky enough to sit down and talk to him about the project, which reunites him with director Antoine Fuqua (who was also behind the first movie, as well as Training Day and The Magnificent Seven).

A lot of topics get brought up in interview – everything from his time stopping off in Ireland for a pint of Guinness, to a fantastic story about helping out a struggling up-and-coming actor – but the one bit that got our collective attention was when he discusses whether or not he has been approached by any of the comic book movie makers to star in their movies.

We know that 20 years ago he was in the running to play Blade (before it eventually went to Wesley Snipes), but we find it difficult to nobody at Disney (which means Marvel AND Star Wars) or DC or Sony or any of the comic book movie makers haven’t chatted to him about it.

Which is where this conversation comes into play, as he discusses meeting with Chadwick Boseman (that’d be Black Panther to us), as well as being in frequent contact with director Ryan Coogler…

Stop for a second now and imagine how perfect Denzel would be as the villain Black Panther 2!

The Equalizer 2 is in Irish cinemas from Friday 17 August, and you can hear our review of the movie (as well as our interview with the movie’s director Antoine Fuqua) in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski right here.
