Filming on the third season of the hit TV show was scheduled to be wrapped by now.

But Lisa McGee, writer and creator of the show told The Big Reviewski host, Eoghan Doherty, that they had to pause the filming due to the impact of Covid-19.

“We kind of made the decision to push things back, we’re trying to figure it all out, but we’re getting there I think,” the Derry woman said.

“We don’t want to compromise the show and it would have been hugely compromised if we’d gone ahead. So we just decided it was worth waiting to get everything right.

“The minute we can get back, we will be.”

McGee went onto talk about a new project that is sure to delight the legions of fans of the show – Derry Girls: The Movie.

She revealed that both she and the stars of the show are all agreed that they’d like to bring the show to the big screen.

“The priority for me is always the TV show so once I have series 3 sorted out and we’ve filmed it I would like to do a movie now.

“I think I’ve talked to all the gang and they’d like to do it. So it’s just about me figuring out the story.

“I’ve got like half an idea. I definitely don’t have a script or anything, we’re a long way off. It’s just that I think we’d all like to do it now.”

McGee, along with her writer husband, Tobias Beer, was chatting to The Big Reviewski about their new co-written thriller series, The Deceived starring Paul Mescal, which airs on Virgin Media TV later this autumn.
