They’re pulling the plug from Netflix and starting their own streaming service.

No longer content with being a substitute on the Netflix bench, Disney is going to set off on its own streaming service adventure from 2019 onwards.

Walt Disney’s company is going to pull its movies from Netflix in the US and instead will create their own Disney streaming service.

According to CNBC, Disney announced the news in its latest earnings report on Tuesday.

The streaming service will start in the US initially in 2019 but hopes to expand globally after their launch date in the States.

Although Disney had a good relationship with Netflix, they felt the time was right to move its content off the platform which includes Pixar titles also.

They won’t be disappearing from Netflix just yet and it is being said that Disney movies will remain on the site until the end 0f 2019.

Disney’s new streaming service will be the home for all Disney movies going forward and 2019 will see the likes of Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 being included in the new service.

They will also launch its own ESPN video streaming service early next year which will feature over 10,000 sporting events every year.

A spokesperson for Netflix told JOE that:

“The statement Disney made only impacts the US and only the pay one output deal for theatrical films. US Netflix members will have access to Disney films on the service through the end of 2019, including all new films that are shown theatrically through the end of 2018.

“We continue to do business with the Walt Disney Company on many fronts, including our ongoing relationship with Marvel TV.”
