Disney’s new streaming service will premiere episodes once a week instead of all at once

This is a very smart move by Disney+.

There are two kinds of people: those who prefer to binge-watch, or those who prefer the weekly approach. It essentially comes down to the style you enjoy, say, Mindhunter or Game Of Thrones. Do you prefer to watch the entire thing in one weekend/day/sitting, consuming en masse to get the entire story and arc in one go? Or do you enjoy the cliffhanger'y elements and the tantalising conversations with friends, family, and co-workers about what might happen next? Well, Disney's new streaming service are planning on making that decision for you, as Disney+'s shows will be released episodically week-on-week. Over the weekend at the D23 Convention, it was announced that The Mandalorian, High School Musical: The Series, Forky Asks A Question, and more new original programming will be made available at launch on Tuesday 12 November (a date still not confirmed for Ireland). Still more shows have been confirmed to be in production or pre-production, including She-Hulk, Loki, Wandavision, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Monsters. Inc. spin-off Monsters At Work, an untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and an untitled series based on the movie Love, Simon. Added to that, the platform will become the exclusive provided for the entire back catalogue of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney movies, but the decision to make their programming weekly is a clever decision. Certain shows on certain streaming platforms could be consumed under the free trial period, or customers could simply cancel the service once the one specific show was watched. But stretching out the shows - in the same way that HBO do via Now TV here - means that customers have to remain subscribers in order to watch the entire season. Additionally, weekly think pieces will generate further conversation about each show, not to mention general word of mouth. Or word of Twitter, as it has now become, the social network equivalent of the water cooler. Now all we need is for the shows to be great and they'll be on to a winner, and from the looks of The Mandalorian, that shouldn't be a problem... Clip via Star Wars
