Everything from rom-coms to psychological thrillers to war dramas.
Disney recently announced the brand new additions to the Disney+ service throughout July, but this week they’ve also added some oldies. Some are golden, some are definitely not, but here they all are, starting with…
ALOHA
Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, John Krasinski, Rachel McAdams and Bill Murray star in this Hawaii-set rom-com from the director of Almost Famous. Despite the high pedigree of those involved, it only scored 20% on Rotten Tomatoes.
COPYCAT
Riding the coattails of the success of The Silence of the Lambs, this serial killer thriller with Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter is still quite entertaining in its own right.
EPIC MOVIE
2% on Rotten Tomatoes. Avoid.
HIGH CRIMES
When her husband (Jim Cavizel) is accused of terrible war crimes, an attorney (Ashley Judd) teams up with a former military attorney (Morgan Freeman) to prove his innocence. A trashy-but-watchable legal thriller.
JUST MY LUCK
Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine star in this rom-com about a lucky woman and a very unlucky man who magically switch fortunes, just as they begin to fall in love.
MADE IN AMERICA
Zora (Nia Long) has her life turned upside down when her mother (Whoopi Goldberg) tells her that her biological father is white, and a used car salesman (Ted Danson).
MEET THE SPARTANS
Also 2% on Rotten Tomatoes. Also avoid.
MIRRORS
A remake of a much-loved (and much better) South Korean horror movie, with Kiefer Sutherland as a former cop haunted by visions within, yep, mirrors.
THE NEGOTIATOR
Samuel L. Jackson is the hostage negotiator becomes hostage taker when he gets accused of a crime. So they call in another negotiator (Kevin Spacey), but how do you negotiate with a negotiator? A decent action thriller.
PHENOMENON
Following a strange incident, a man (John Travolta) discovers he has been gifted with some extraordinary powers. But those who know him begin to fear what these changes might bring.
THE PRINCESS
A brand-new, 2022 release! If you can mush together The Raid and Tangled, then you’re basically there.
RUNAWAY JURY
An impressive all-star cast – Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack, Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Piven, Jennifer Beals, Cliff Curtis – feature in this enjoyable John Grisham adaptation.
THE SENTINEL
Accused of a murder he didn’t commit, a former secret service agent (Michael Douglas) is forced to go on the run, hunted by his protege (Kiefer Sutherland), while also trying to stop another assassination attempt.
STAY
A psychological thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and Bob Hoskins about a psychiatrist who gets too involved with a patient.
SWEET HOME ALABAMA
Reese Witherspoon headlines this dumb but very fun rom-com about a woman trying to get her stubborn ex-husband (Josh Lucas).
TIGERLAND
The movie that introduced most of Hollywood to Colin Farrell, a very good war drama set against the impending arrival of the Vietnam war.
WILD HOGS
Ray Liotta, Tim Allen, William H. Macy and John Travolta play a group of life-long friends who decide to go on a motorcycle road trip across America.
