With films like Creed II, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Suspiria, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and Ralph Breaks the Internet still to come in 2018, it’s somewhat redundant to draw up the ‘best of’ lists at the start of November, but who are we to argue with the good people at Empire?
Of course, The Big Reviewski team at JOE will be bringing you our own take on the best films of 2018 – close to the actual end of the year, mind – but given the fact that Empire are the biggest film magazine in the world, we’re more than happy to share their very learned and insightful opinion.
In JOE’s midway review of 2018, A Quiet Place and Avengers: Infinity War ranked very highly and we’re not surprised to see both films featuring on this particular list.
As stated previously, this writer firmly believes that John Krasinski’s film is the finest horror of the decade because it balanced superb scares with a believable story and characters that you really cared about. How about that scene with the nail?
Aside from this, the Russo Brothers did a remarkable job in Avengers: Infinity War because it’s not easy giving screen time to 7,432 superheroes while keeping the plot moving and the action pumping.
Aside from making 743 gazillion dollars at the box office, the Russos can be proud of the fact that their superhero epic was voted as the best film of 2018, according to Empire.
As for the rest of the Top 5, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, A Quiet Place, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Black Panther make the grade.
