Epilepsy Foundation issue warning ahead of The Rise of Skywalker

Disney, in conjunction with the Epilepsy Foundation, have taken more care than usual to warn viewers about the epilepsy risk of the upcoming Star Wars movie. Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on 19 December, and millions will be in attendance for the final chapter of the Skywalker saga. However, Disney have taken the unusual step of issuing a warning ahead of time that the film will feature "several sequences with imagery and sustained flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photo-sensitivities." Disney haven't published any information as to what's happening in these scenes, other than the scenes may cause problems for some viewers. The Epilepsy Foundation has issued the following advice for anyone who could be affected: • Ask a friend to watch the movie first. • Take your friend with you when you go see the film to alert you to which scenes contain the flashing lights so you block your eyes during those scenes. • Teach your friend the three simple steps of seizure first aid — Stay, Safe, Side — so that they can assist if you have a seizure. The foundation also said: "For about 3% of people with epilepsy, exposure to flashing lights at certain intensities or certain visual patterns can trigger seizures. This condition is known as photosensitive epilepsy and it’s more common in children and adolescents."
