It comes from the same writer-director and is also focused around music.
Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for Flora and Son, a new Irish comedy-drama from writer-director John Carney (Once, Sing Street) that stars Bad Sisters’ Eve Hewson.
The movie follows a single mom named Flora (Hewson), who is at a loss about what to do with her rebellious teenage son, Max (newcomer Orén Kinlan).
After Max has a run-in with the Gardaí, Flora is encouraged to find her son a hobby.
Discovering an old guitar in a skip, she believes that music may be the answer and winds up seeking the services of an LA-based online guitar teacher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt).

Also featuring amongst its cast Don Wycherley and Jack Reynor, Flora and Son premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, with the film currently holding a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Following the Sundance screening, Apple TV+ acquired the distribution rights to the comedy-drama for a reported figure of just under $20 million, suggesting the streaming giant has high hopes for the project.
This has led some to ponder whether the movie could be a potential player at next year’s Oscars. Eve Hewson’s accent veers into ‘Pierce Brosnan in Taffin’ territory but she was excellent in The Knick and Bad Sisters so we’ll respectfully let it slide and wait to see the full movie.
Flora and Son will be released in Irish cinemas on 23 February 2024. You can check out its trailer right here:
