Friends actor Mike Hagerty dies aged 67

Tributes have begun to pour in for the veteran actor.

Veteran character actor Mike Hagerty has passed away at the age of 67.

Best known for his recurring role in Friends as Mr. Treeger, the superintendent of Courtney Cox’s character Monica’s building, Hagerty had been acting since the 1980s.

As well as his part in Friends, the actor had roles in other beloved sitcoms such Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld.

He also appeared in the movies Overboard, Red Heat and Wayne’s World.

Hagerty’s most recent role was in acclaimed HBO comedy-drama Somebody Somewhere starring Bridget Everett.

It was Everett who broke the news of Hagerty’s passing, writing on Twitter:

“With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles.

“A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life.

“Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty, her wife Kathleen O’Rourke and their daughter Meg.

“He will be sorely missed.”
