We can’t wait for this.
The trailer for one of the biggest movies of 2024 has just dropped and it’s fair to say we’re quite excited.
Not only does Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga look incredible from what’s been shown so far, one of its main stars also looks completely unrecognisable.
A new addition to the Mad Max film franchise, which includes the critically acclaimed Fury Road, Furiosa’s titular character will be played by Anna Taylor Joy.
The film acts as an origin story for the iconic character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road, and what led to her eventually teaming up with Max.
First though, Furiosa must get through the film’s main villain – a warlord called Dementus, who gets his hands on her after she is taken from her family, and is played by a completely unrecognisable Chris Hemsworth.
While we’re used to the Australian star’s flowing locks in Thor, Hemsworth is taking a leaf out of Bradley Cooper’s book and going for a full on prosthetic nose and perhaps some new teeth too.

By his name alone, we know Dementus is not going to be the nicest of fellas and, with the new trailer dropping, we also know he’s got a penchant for bazookas and smashing skulls.
Hemsworth himself has described him as “a pretty horrible individual” in an interview with Empire.
“Through the whole film we kept coming back to, ‘This is evil, but what is the intention behind it?’ It’s not just sadistic insanity. There is a real purpose, the wheels are turning, he’s plotting and planning and ten steps ahead of everyone else.”

The logline for the George Miller-directed flick reads: “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.
“Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
In the trailer, Taylor-Joy’s voiceover says: “As a child, my world was forever changed. My mother was magnificent. And he took it all from me.
“My childhood, my mother… I want them back.”
We’re super excited to see the film, which will no doubt be a fiery and vengeance-filled romp with some great nods to what Furiosa eventually becomes in Fury Road.
In the trailer, Taylor-Joy even shaves her head, showing the iconic look of Theron’s version of the character.
Furiosa lands Irish cinemas on May 24.
