The Game of Thrones dead pool: Which main character is most likely to be killed first?

Who's your money on?

All men must die.

And women. And children. And direwolves. And giants. The point is that a lot of people die in Game of Thrones. So it’s the perfect show for a dead pool.

The show is famous for killing off major characters that you’d imagine would be safe. With that in mind, we took a look at which big characters we think are most likely to bite the dust when Season 7 starts streaming on NOW TV on 17 July.

Just don’t blame us if your favourite character is top of the list!

10. Jon Snow

Who: Bastard, former Night’s Watch Lord Commander, cheater of death, King of the North, and Knower of Nothing. Raised as Ned Stark’s bastard but he’s actually the son of Ned’s sister Lyanna and former Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, making him Daenerys’ nephew.

How safe? He’s only just returned from the dead so killing him off now would be particularly cruel, even by Game of Thrones standards! Sansa makes an ominous speech in the trailer about lone wolves so he may have to fight a few fires in Season 7. Still, he’s an obvious candidate to sit on the Iron Throne.

JOE odds: 12/1

9. Daenerys Targaryen

Who: The Unburnt Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, winner of an U12 county camogie medal (probably), Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons and purveyor of unnecessarily long titles.

How safe? We’re going to go out on a limb and say pretty safe. To paraphrase the classic Kerrygold ad, who’d take the dragons to Westeros if she was killed?

JOE odds: 10/1

8. Bran Stark

Who: Son of Ned Stark, Warg, and holder of many of Westeros’ most hidden secrets, including the true parentage of Jon Snow.

How safe? Bran is obviously part of a story arc, even if it’s all a bit vague. We reckon he’s got a bigger part to play and he’ll survive Season 7, even if everyone around him meets a grisly end, which tends to happen with Bran.

JOE odds: 10/1

7. Tyrion Lannister

Who: Smart, scheming but likeable underdog who’s definitely off his family Christmas card list. He’s now advising Daenerys and trying not to get eaten by a dragon.

How safe? If he can avoid becoming dragon food, Tyrion has shown a remarkable ability to survive and he’s become one of the most popular characters in the series. He’d be the perfect candidate for a shocking death but persistent rumours about his Targaryen parentage suggest he still has a big part to play.

JOE odds: 6/1

6. Cersei Lannister

Who: Ruler of Westeros, fire-starter, supporter of brotherly love and definitely not someone to annoy.

How safe? The impending invasion by Daenerys means the outlook is grim but actress Lena Headley is rumoured to have signed on for another season. We’d be surprised if this is her last season but it wouldn’t be the first time the show has surprised us.

JOE odds: 5/1

5. Jaime Lannister

Who: Kingslayer, one-handed soldier and, eh, family man.

How safe? Well, he appears to be charging into battle in the new trailer. That could be a problem, what with his missing sword arm and all. He’s also become a much more sympathetic character in recent seasons, which probably won’t help his chances of survival. Still, he’s reportedly signed up for a new season so…

JOE odds: 4/1

4. Arya Stark

Who: Daughter of Ned Stark, tomboy, former faceless assassin, avenger and prodigious killer.

How safe? She’s shown a knack for surviving but she has pissed off a mystical assassin cult and she is a wanted fugitive. Her death would be an emotional gut punch but she’s a prime candidate to be taken out in a cruel twist of fate.

JOE odds: 3/1

3. Sansa Stark

Who: Eldest daughter of Ned Stark and walking embodiment of the perils of arranged marriages.

How safe? She got her first kill in the last season and seems eager to earn her “murderous scheming” badge in the new season. She looks to be on a collision course with her cousin Jon Snow and we can’t see her coming out on top against everyone’s favourite born-again hero.

JOE odds: 2/1

2. Petyr Baelish

Who: Schemer, wannabe ruler and poisoner of both bodies and minds.

How Safe? Littlefinger has manipulated multiple characters, with Sansa being the latest target of his attentions. He’s played a clever game but he’s since traded King’s Landing for the cold North. Like Donny in The Big Lebowski, he’s out of his element and that could leave him exposed.

JOE odds: Evens

1. Theon Greyjoy

Who: Iron Islander raised by Ned Stark, former slave to Ramsey Bolton, and walking advertisement for the cruelty of man.

How safe? Theon is heading into war alongside Daenerys, which won’t help his chances. His murderous uncle also wants him dead. Plus, his story arc means he’d be the perfect candidate to find redemption with a brave sacrifice. Let’s just say it’s not looking good…

JOE odds: 1/2
