Game of Thrones star has the perfect response to the petition to remake Season 8

Thrones petition

Listen to JOE’s brand new Game Of Thrones reaction show, The North Awaits, with Michael Fry & Carl Kinsella right here.

The petition now has over 900,000 signatures.

As always, if you haven’t seen the most recent Game of Thrones episode, consider this to be your spoiler alert warning.

As soon as Missandei and Grey Worm were making plans for their life after the Battle of Winterfell, viewers just knew that they weren’t going to have a happy ending.

However, what did come as a surprise is the fact that the leader of The Unsullied was unscathed following the attack by the army of the dead and the subsequent Battle at King’s Landing – well, the fight in the capital of Westeros was a bit more one-sided thanks to Daenerys’ descent into Mad Queen status.

As for Missandei, well, at least her last word had the desired impact on Daenerys.

Two people that aren’t unscathed from Season 8 though are the Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. As stated previously, a petition to remake Season 8 with “competent writers” has now gained over 900,000 signatures.

Benioff and Weiss are the writers for the last four episodes on Season 8 too.

We’ve previously discussed some of the plotting and writing issues with Season 8 – there are plenty – but does anyone else not think that this petition is woefully disrespectful to the entire cast and crew that worked on the show?

The Battle of Winterfell took 55 consecutive nights to film and while viewers only see what’s on camera, the logistics of shooting that one episode are incredible.

Catering, electricians, drivers. stunt men, VFX technicians, directors, lighting, camera operators, costume, hair and make up, weaponsmiths, security men, sound technicians, and hundreds of other people have all done superb work in Season 8.

It’s insulting to think that their work needs to be remade and Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm) agrees.

During a recent interview with Strahan and Sara, he was asked about the petition and said: “I think it’s rude.  Obviously, the show feels to people like it belongs to them. That’s really good – I think it’s really important when people take something into their heart and it means something to them.

“However, it doesn’t. I just mean that in the sense that I was there and the crew, in particular, are like the hardest working people I’ve ever met. I think to trivialise their work in that way – I find it quite sad.”

With regards to the mention of ‘competent writers,’ it’s worth noting that Benioff and Weiss are the same two people that wrote almost 50 episodes of the show.

Granted, some fans state that they were heavily reliant on the original source material when writing the ‘better’ episodes from the earlier seasons – a fair point – but the duo also wrote episodes like ‘The Door,’ ‘The Battle of the Bastards,’ The Winds of Winter,’ and ‘The Spoils of War’ – all terrific episodes, all featuring events that haven’t yet been depicted in the novels.

On this point, while some Game of Thrones fans really dislike Season 8, others don’t. Each to their own, eh?
