Game of Thrones author George R.R Martin is coming to Dublin for an event at the IFI

George R.R Martin Dublin

Very cool news for Game of Thrones fans.

With Game of Thrones and Nightflyers filming in various parts of Ireland, it should come as no surprise to learn that George R.R.Martin has a special affinity with this part of the world.

Hell, he has openly acknowledged that the map of Westeros is basically an image of Ireland when it’s upside down.

If you’re a fan of the author’s work, you’ll be delighted to know that he’ll be attending a special screening in Dublin’s Irish Film Institute (IFI) of Fred M Wilcox’s seminal 1956 sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet.

The event takes place on Saturday 17 August at 8pm and it’s presented in association with Dublin 2019: An Irish WorldCon.

Following the screening, George R.R. Martin will be in conversation with Maura McHugh about the film and the influence that the sci-fi genre has had on his own writing and career.

We’re certain that a few Game of Thrones questions might just sneak in too!

Tickets for this special event will only be available via the IFI’s website and more details can be found here.
