The trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife is scarier and more heartfelt than you’d expect

Rory Cashin

Plus it has Paul Rudd, so you know it’ll still be funny.

31 years since the first sequel, and we are heading back to that world, thanks to a lovely connection between both what is happening on screen, and behind-the-scenes, too.

Jason Reitman (Juno, Up In The Air) is directing this one, taking over from his dad Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters movies, and several other stone cold comedy classics.

Jason Reitman is also co-writer of the new movie, and as you can see from the trailer, it is telling the story of a young boy (Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard) who discovers that he is the descendant of one of the original Ghostbusters, and there is Paul Rudd, as his science teacher, discovering that this small town is prone to some seriously odd goings-on.

All in all, the tone of the trailer is VERY different to the madcap comedy of the original (or the all-female reboot), and maybe that is a very clever move by Reitman Jnr., to set the franchise off in a brand new direction.

We’ll know for sure when the movie arrives next summer.
