“Leslie spoke her truth and I support her.”

Following the news that Jason Reitman is set to direct a new Ghostbusters film that will seemingly ignore the events of the 2016 female-led reboot, Leslie Jones (Patty Tolan in the 2016 film) spoke her mind about the direction Reitman was taking.

The SNL comedian said that the decision to ignore 2016’s Ghostbusters was: “So insulting. Like fuck us. We didn’t count. It’s like something Trump would do. (Trump voice) “Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!”

With regards to Reitman’s new version, the director of Juno and Thank You For Smoking said: “I have so much respect for what Paul [Feig] created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”

After the female-led version of Ghostbusters was released, Jones was forced to leave Twitter after she was the target of disgusting racist abuse.

The director of the 2016 version of Ghostbusters, Paul Feig, has come out in support of Jones, saying: “Leslie spoke her truth and I support her.”

The director of Bridesmaids and The Heat was also critical of the online trolls who continue to abuse Jones online.

In a message posted to Twitter, Feig said: “An absolute honest to God never ending supply of bullshit and hate from these trolls. Leslie spoke her truth and I support her. I am very open to Jason’s new version of GB but am also sad that our 2016 team may not get to bust again. We all are. We’re forever proud of our movie.”

The new Ghostbusters film is set for release in 2020.
