Sequel to one of the best sci-fi movies of 21st century gets first look

Produced by Ridley Scott and featuring two Irish stars amongst its cast, the sequel is making big changes to its sci-fi world.

This is after a war broke out between humans and their android creations (known as "replicants", with the latter coming out on top.

The show will follow Cora (Schafer), a human fugitive who, in a final bid to stop running, takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner. Within the sci-fi franchise's world, Blade Runners are police officers who hunt and "retire" (kill) rogue replicants.

Forced to partner with Olwen (Yeoh), a Replicant days from dying herself, Cora hunts down a runaway "hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city".

First confirmed to be in the works back in 2021 by producer Ridley Scott (who directed the original Blade Runner), the Blade Runner TV show is created by Silka Luisa (Shining Girls).

Comprising eight episodes, Blade Runner 2099 will premiere on Prime Video on 25 November.
