A war drama with a starring Hollywood star Adam Brody has begun filming in Limerick.
Brody, best known for 2003 Fox hit-drama The OC and more recently, Netflix rom-com series Nobody Wants This, will star in cult writer-director Whit Stillman's, A Night at Claridge's.
Best known for his Doomed-Bourgeois-in-Love trilogy made up of Metropolitan, Barcelona, and The Last Days of Disco, the new war drama marks Stillman's first film in a decade, with his last project, Love & Friendship, also shot in Ireland.
Filming began this week on Limerick City's Cecil Street and Hartstonge Street, with several road closures expected throughout November as crews transform parts of the city for the period production.
Crews and actors are expected to stay locally during the shoot, a boost for the region's growing film industry.
The project reunites director Stillman with Brody, having previous worked together on the movie Damsels in Distress and the TV pilot The Cosmopolitans.
The 46-year-old American actor leads the cast alongside Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael.
A Night at Claridge’s, produced by Nathalie Lichtenthaeler of Wide Eye Films, follows Miss Roach (played by Carmichael), who leaves a Blitz-hit London for a boarding house where she befriends a German woman and meets a charming American officer (Brody), leading to an intense, jealousy filled psychological battle.
Regional film manager at Film in Limerick, Paul C Ryan highlighted how good it is to see cameras rolling in Limerick once again.
“We are delighted to welcome Whit Stillman, Nathalie Lichtenthaeler, and the entire cast and crew to the region for this exciting production. We wish everyone involved a successful shoot in Limerick and Clare.
“Limerick and the wider Mid-West have much to offer film productions, from our diverse range of locations to our highly skilled crew and experienced local screen industry.
"Having Wide Eye Films return to the region is a strong endorsement of the talent, expertise, and production support available here,” he continued.
