It is already "the most-watched documentary ever" on the streaming service in the States, and is available to watch at home in Ireland right now.
Sometimes you just KNOW a documentary is going to give you everything you're looking for.
Sure, there are the powerful and emotional ones, but we're not talking about those right now.
No, we're talking about the sordid, scandalous type of documentaries. Stuff like The Tinder Swindler or Woodstock '99, documentaries that will have you laughing out loud one minute, and then have you putting your hand over your mouth in sheer shock the next.
That is exactly what God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down A Dynasty is.
The story focuses on Giancarlo Granda, as he tells his story as a former pool attendant at the high-end Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami. There he met a charming older woman by the name of Becki Falwell, and the two soon began a torrid seven-year relationship, despite the fact that Becki was married... to Jerry Falwell Jr.
And who is Jerry, you might be asking? Well, at the time, he was a powerful attorney, and also happened to be a prominent member of the Evangelical Christian community.
Oh, and he was a huge supporter of Donald Trump during the run-up to his presidential election, which is where this documentary folds in the likes of the one-time president, as well as Mike Pence and Ted Cruz.
God Forbid is already the most-watched documentary on Hulu in the States (a platform we don't have over here, but don't worry about that), and the critics have also been gushing over how salacious and entertaining the documentary has proven to be:
CNN - "Making the most of its extensive access to Giancarlo Granda, the figure at the centre of it all, God Forbid: The Sex Scandal that Brought Down a Dynasty pulls back the curtain on a salacious tale of sex, lies, hypocrisy, and political intrigue - for streaming purposes, a divine cocktail if there ever was one."
Movie Nation - "Corben doesn’t stop with just the 'sex scandal' part of this. God Forbid takes us back to the blackmail-worthy 'quid pro quo' of Falwell’s endorsement of the profane, obscene and hilariously Godless Donald Trump. Then journalists, academics and historians tie Falwell’s father, the dynasty-founding racist turned anti-abortion opportunist Jerry Falwell, to Trumpism and the State of the Nation today."
Chicago Sun-Times - "With God Forbid, Corben serves up a neon potpourri of slick visuals, quick cuts, clever re-creation techniques, needle drops such as 'Jesus Piece' by The Game, the use of archival footage and sit-down interviews to tell the incredible but true story of one of the most stunning sex/religious/political scandals of this century. (And let’s face it, that’s saying a lot.)"
God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down A Dynasty is available to watch on Disney+ right now.
