There are very few singers who seem to capture and enthral an entire generation but former Nirvana guitarist and singer Kurt Cobain is most definitely one of them.

The Seattle band soundtracked the formative adolescent years of JOE and most of our readers also which is why we’re very interested in this upcoming HBO documentary on the singers life.

“Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” will be released next year and the director, Brett Morgen, has been working on the project with the cooperation of Cobain’s family for almost eight years.

Frances Bean Cobain, Kurt’s daughter with Courtney Love, is an executive producer on the project but Love is not involved.

The documentary promises to be a treat for fans of Nirvana because it will also feature some unreleased music. “Once I stepped into Kurt’s archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media”, said Morgen.

Cobain was an incredibly complex, wonderfully gifted yet tragically troubled person and we have a feeling that this documentary could be a little bit special.

If it’s half as good as Nirvana and Cobain’s work then we will be very happy.
