He's dead.

HBO have confirmed what most of us suspected, following the open-ended final episode of the fifth series of Game of Thrones earlier this year. The King is dead. The fate of Stannis Baratheon has been in question ever since that final episode. Stannis was last seen lying against a tree while Brienne of Tarth was about to divorce his head from the rest of his body with her sword. She swung, but we never actually saw the death of 'the one true king of Westeros' (his words, not ours, never liked him) leaving people to question his demise. Stannis Well, HBO have published a new book called Game of Thrones: The Noble Houses of Westeros Seasons 1-5, and according to RTÉ Ten the following passage appears: "Stannis was killed outside of Winterfell by Brienne of Tarth, who wished to avenge Renly's death." As for Jon Snow, well, we'll just have to wait and see.
