Here’s the reason why Joey and Phoebe never hooked up in Friends

Right now, Friends fans are probably more hyper than the gang after six of Central Perk's strongest cappuccinos because the upcoming reunion - sadly without Matthew Perry - has made us all reflect on just how good the show was. Friends was a cultural phenomenon and a few words can still trigger some fantastic memories . Coffee, WENUS, BarcaLounger and jazz hands still make us laugh but at it's core - the show was about six single people that had a lot of sex, often with each other. Ross ended up with Rachel. Monica married Chandler. Joey briefly dated Rachel and they all kissed each other at some point. One question remains, why didn't Mr Tribbiani and Mrs Buffay ever date? In a recent interview with People magazine, Matt LeBlanc says that he and his co-star Lisa Kudrow were all up for their characters being friends with benefits but those pesky writers rejected the idea. He says "towards the end we actually pitched the idea that Joey and Phoebe had been having casual sex the entire time. We'd go back and shoot all the historical scenes and just before a moment that everyone recognizes, there's Joey and Phoebe coming out of a broom closet together. But they were like, 'Nah." Can you imagine what the audience reaction would have been like? To be fair, Joey and Phoebe might actually get together because they do have a genius plan.
