Here’s what Idris Elba has said about the James Bond role vacancy

Carl Kinsella

Much to our disappointment, Idris Elba has ruled himself out of the running to fill Daniel Craig’s shoes.

Elba, who has long been touted as a possible Bond, told Good Morning America that he thinks he’s too old to play the legendary spy.

“I ain’t gonna be running around, in cars, and ladies, and martinis. Who wants to do that? It sounds terrible!”

Elba, best known for his roles in Luthor and The Wire, is many people’s preferred choice to take over from Craig, a fact he’s well aware of. “It’s the wildest rumour in the world. I keep saying if it was to happen, it’d be the will of the nation, because there’s not been no talks with me and studios about any of that, but everywhere I go, people want that to happen.”

Hopefully he can be talked around… At 43, Elba is younger than many of the actors who have played Bond, including Daniel Craig, who was 47 when Spectre was released last year.

Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery also played Bond ate ages older than Elba’s current age.

Ball’s back in your court, Idris…
