Hollywood Drive of Fame: Bad Santa’s Chevrolet Impala

JOE celebrates the beat-up Chevy from Bad Santa...

JOE

For this week’s Hollywood Drive of Fame we’re taking a look at the iconic 1969 Chevrolet Impala Sport Sedan from Bad Santa.

It’s that time of the year again when we all sit down to watch a heart-warming Christmas tale of happiness and success.

Briskly after that, we turn on Billy Bob Thornton’s excellent performance as a degenerate in Bad Santa to get that sweet taste out of our mouth.

And who could forget his banged-up Chevy, eh? The car was almost as beat-up as he was. But he did manage to have some really great times in it… yes, we are referring to that scene with the mother from the Gilmore Girls.

Unfortunately we can’t show you that because of its slightly NSFW nature… or several of the other scenes which happen in the car actually.

But here’s the terrific trailer, where you can get a glimpse of the Chevy at around the 52 second mark.

It’s unclear whether or not his busted old piece of junk is the same car Steve McQueen used in the 1972 movie the Getaway, but they certainly look similar.

That would explain why it was so dishevelled… they didn’t treat their Chevys with much love in that film either.

The Impala is ingrained into American culture. The first generation of Impalas hit the markets in 1958 and were as pretty a car as you will ever see.

The 1969 model that Billy Bob drives is a fourth generation model and its standard engine roared with a wonderful V8 engine which supplied 235 horsepower. Although we doubt the one in Bad Santa had any of that power left.

The new 10th generation isn’t bad to look at either.

But the Hollywood Drive of Fame is reserved for the broken down fourth generation. Because we like our cars like we like our Santas… bad ass.
