A horror earning rave reviews and 4 more big trailers you might have missed this week

Stephen Porzio

The black comedy slasher has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Another seven days have passed which means another edition of JOE’s trailer column, where we round up the best teasers released in the world of film and TV in the past week.

Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Bodies Bodies Bodies

Starting off with movies, this black comedy slasher follows a group of rich 20-somethings hanging out in a mansion where a party game winds up turning deadly.

After its premiere at South by Southwest earlier this year, Bodies Bodies Bodies currently has a very impressive 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

It also boasts a great cast – including Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Myha’la Herrold (Industry), Pete Davidson (SNL) and Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby) – and comes from A24, the distributor and studio that has been involved with some of the best horrors of recent years like Hereditary and The Witch.

Bodies Bodies Bodies is out in the US on 5 August so you can expect an Irish release sometime after that.

Meanwhile, it was a big week in terms of horror trailers – with fresh teasers also dropping for Flux Gourmet, the new movie from In Fabric writer-director Peter Strickland, and The Black Phone, which comes from Scott Derrickson – the director of Sinister.

Jurassic World Dominion

A few weeks ago we wrote about a featurette for Jurassic World Dominion but now we have a new trailer, giving us a further glimpse of what happens when the series’ dinos are no longer confined to an island.

Featuring the return of original Jurassic Park stars Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill, this new sequel comes billed as “the culmination” of the franchise.

It is out in cinemas in Ireland on 10 June.

Fire Island

This romantic comedy inspired by Pride and Prejudice follows two best friends who embark on a weeklong vacation to Fire Island, the famous gay escape destination off the southern shore of Long Island in New York.

Starring very funny comedians Bowen Yang (SNL) and Joel Kim Booster (The Other Two), Fire Island is set to be released as a Star Original on Disney+ on 3 June.

The Essex Serpent

Moving onto television, this Apple TV+ show is set in the Victorian era and centres on a woman (Homeland’s Claire Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent and winds up forming a surprising bond with a local pastor (Tom Hiddleston).

Based on the popular novel of the same name by Sarah Perry, this six-part show premieres on the streamer on 13 May.

Hacks Season 2

Last but not least, a trailer was released for the second season of comedy-drama Hacks just weeks after the first season of the critically-acclaimed show dropped in Ireland on Amazon Prime Video.

The very funny programme follows the professional relationship between a young comedy writer (Hannah Einbinder) and a legendary stand-up comedian (Jean Smart).

The second season of Hacks will see Lady Bird’s Laurie Metcalf join the cast and will premiere in the States on 12 May.

An Irish release date has yet to be announced but hopefully Irish fans of the show won’t have to wait too long to be able to watch the new episodes.
