Great news: Idris Elba confirms that even more seasons of Luther are coming and hints at a film

Luther

Season 5 is coming and there’s even more.

Aside from the wonderful writing, superb characters, and macabre mysteries, a large reason why Luther really resonates with people is due to the fact that it’s incredibly stylised and heavily influenced by some of Hollywood’s best thrillers and horrors.

For example, it’s entirely possible to see the influence of features like The Silence of the Lambs, Sherlock Holmes, and even Columbo on Neil Cross’ writing.

On this note, the granddaddy of the serial killer genre is undoubtedly Se7en and with the persistent rumours of the Luther film growing larger and larger, the latest comments from Idris Elba will delight fans of the drama.

In an interview with Empire, Elba said that the potential Luther film will be aiming to replicate David Fincher’s wonderful cat-and-mouse thriller.

With regards to Season 5, Elba confirmed that the famous trench coat will be back for even more episodes in Season 6.

“This season is not the end. But there are some real changes that will happen,” he said.

As for the film, we’re fully behind the idea that DCI John Luther will replicate Detectives Mills and Somerset’s hunt for John Doe.

“Our ambition is it falls on the scale of Seven,” Elba hinted of the possible film plans.

Series 5, a four-episode run, will air on the BBC over the Christmas period.

Death, murder, mystery, serial killers, corrupt cops, and psychopaths. Merry Christmas!

We can’t wait.
