Idris Elba will reunite with actors Ruth Wilson and Dermot Crowley in the highly anticipated Luther sequel on Netflix.
It follows the 2023 Luther: The Fallen Sun, based on the popular BBC television show.
The sequel will be directed by Jamie Payne, following the script by series creator Neil Cross.
In this new chapter, Luther is secretly called back into service when a new wave of brutal, seemingly arbitrary murders hits London.
The official logline reads: "But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?"
Director Payne said in a statement: "Neil has yet again created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together. It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley.
"I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson. Fans new and old are in for a treat!"
It is understood filming will begin in February, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which also broke the news of the sequel.
Producers include Chernin Entertainment, Cross, Elba and Gina Carter for 22Summers, and Tim Lewis.
Luther premiered in 2010 and aired intermittently over five seasons.
Crowley will reprise his role as police superintendent Martin Schenk, while Wilson, who didn’t appear in the movie The Fallen Sun, will return as serial killer/scientist Alice Morgan.
"Luther, Alice and Schenk are more than characters to me, they’re family," Cross said.
"I never stop wondering where they are, what’s become of them…and what horrors might be stirring in the shadows of London while Luther’s not around.
"So we decided to get together and find out what happens next."
