Ireland’s finest hidden gem on the feel good film of the year

jessie buckley

This movie will make you feel ALL of the feels.

If you don’t know who Jessie Buckley is yet, don’t worry, because you will before too long.

The Killarney native made a name for herself on musical reality TV show I’d Do Anything, before going on to become a must-see performer on the West End in London.

Since then, she has appeared in the likes of the Tom Hardy period drama Taboo, erotic monster drama Beast, and the future sees her teaming up with Barry Keoghan on the HBO thriller Chernobyl (more on that here), as well as the huge Robert Downey Jnr comedy Doctor Dolittle.

Before all that though, the actress who has landed on both the Breakthrough Actresses list at the BRITs, as well as the Thirty Under 30 list of Trailblazers for Forbes, has her brand new drama Wild Rose arriving in cinemas.

In the movie, Buckley plays Rose-Lynn Harlan, a singer bursting with raw talent, charisma and cheek. Fresh out of jail and with two young kids, all she wants is to get out of Glasgow and make it as a country singer in Nashville, despite her mother (the iconic Julie Walters) telling her that dream is next to impossible.

The movie is an absolute gem, one that will have you overflowing with every emotion there is, and it is all pinned on Buckley’s absolutely incredible, searing performance.

JOE was lucky enough to sit down with the incredibly talented actress to discuss everything from nailing the Glasgow accent, to singing country songs in a Glasgow accent, to which movies are guaranteed to make her cry, what it was like working with the legendary Walters, and what we should expect from Chernobyl and Doctor Dolittle.

Wild Rose is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 12 April, and you’ll be able to buy your tickets to the movie right here.
