Irish actress on huge US show avoids being killed off thanks to one of the best directors of all time

Rory Cashin

The actress revealed how she was saved and kept around for the now-filming second season.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

“Nice hair”, maybe?

Or at work, someone says “Good job” every once in a while?

Well, imagine being so good at your job that your employer completely rewrites the future of your position?

That is essentially what happened with Irish actress Niamh Algar while she was working on the huge sci-fi show Raised By Wolves.

We caught up with Algar recently, during the press rounds for her new creepy horror movie Censor, and you can check out our interview in full right here:

During the chat, the conversation turned to Raised By Wolves; at the time of our conversation, Algar was still in quarantine in a London hotel room, having just returned from South Africa after filming her new scenes for the show. The second season of the massive HBO production is currently being filmed there, under the watchful eye of executive producer Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, The Martian) and show creator Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Contraband).

When discussing her return to the role, Algar revealed the following:

“Ridley [Scott] directed the first couple of episodes, and then we took a break. I think I’m allowed… I am allowed to say this now, but my character was originally meant to die in the fifth episode of the first season.

“Ridley and Aaron Guzikowski, who is the show’s creator, they rang me during the break of when we shot the first couple of episodes, and said ‘Look, we don’t want to kill you off. We really love what you’re doing. How do you feel?’

“And you’re kind of going ‘What?! Yes! Of course I would love to stay!’ But that was just such a massive confidence boost to get. ‘Okay, great, obviously I’m not crap!'”

Season one of Raised By Wolves is available to watch on NOW right now, and season two is likely to arrive in late 2022.

Censor arrives in Irish cinemas on Friday, 20 August, and you can check out the trailer right here:
