The woman in question was perhaps the only person who came off well from the Fyre Festival Netflix documentary.
The new Fyre Festival documentary that was uploaded to Netflix at the start of last weekend has been basically all the internet has talked about over the past couple of days.
If you’ve been living under a rock (or you just don’t fancy watching a load of rich kids getting scammed by con-artists), you might be unaware that the rapper Ja Rule had a fairly big part to play in the whole thing.
Ja was one of the co-creators of the festival, and he doesn’t come across looking too well as a result of the two documentaries that have been released in the past seven days.
One person who did come away from the documentary looking well was MaryAnn Rolle.
Rolle worked around the clock to provide food to the attendees of Fyre, and ultimately she had to use $50,000 of her personal savings to pay her team.
Speaking in the documentary, Rolle said: ‘I had ten people working with me directly. They were just preparing food all day and all night, 24 hours. I had to pay all those people. I went through about $50,000 of my savings that I could have had. They just wiped it out, and never looked back.”
Since then, a GoFundMe has raised over $164,403 for Rolle, and more recently, Ja Rule himself has issued her an apology.Â
In an Instagram post, the New York rapper said: “My heart goes out to this lovely lady… MaryAnne Rolle we’ve never met but I’m devastated that something that was meant to be amazing, turn out to be such a disaster and hurt so many ppl… SORRY to anyone who has been negatively effected by the festival… Rule”
No word on whether he’s going to be sending a bit of cash her way though…
