It’s tough being a sex symbol.

While Jamie Dornan has enjoyed a very successful career across his varied portfolio of work, his starring role in 50 Shades of Grey will always stand out.

While he currently stars as the amnesiac Elliot in BBC drama The Tourist (with a second season coming in January), the Northern Irish actor has revealed he still gets messages from fans of the erotic film trilogy.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Dornan said: “The fandom of that franchise is still feverish. They’ve got all kinds of mad theories. Like that Dakota [Johnson, his Fifty Shades costar] and I have a child together. I don’t know who they think brings it up!”

Going into further detail about the thirsty fandom, he highlighted that it got to a point where a stalking incident occurred when some “bullshit tabloid” published photos of his home.

“At one point, we had a stalking, getting-the-authorities involved situation.”

Thankfully, the fandom is now reserved to sending him saucy messages on his Instagram, with the 41-year-old said that he gets “all kinds of mad stuff, which if I’m honest I’m quite fearful of, so I stay away from it.”

The fear seems completely understandable, to be quite honest.

Jamie Dornan on “totally different” location change for season two of The Tourist

In more recent events, Dornan is currently the star of The Tourist on BBC, where he plays a Northern Irish man who wakes up in an Australian hospital with amnesia, and tries to figure out how he ended up there.

The second season, which arrives on January 1, will be set in Ireland – a filming experience that Dornan said was “a total joy”.

Speaking to GQ, Dornan said: “It was really nice to spend another four months there doing the second series to really remind myself how much I love it there.

“I like being surrounded by Irish people. It is a sincere, real comfort for me.”

The Belfast actor added: “Any chance I get to work on that island with people from that island is a win for me. It’s just a comfort, you know. Just the ease of people being on the same wavelength finding the same shit funny and getting your jokes.

“It was cool to do a job that I started so far away, and that I associated with being away, for everybody now to do that same job in a place where I feel very comfortable.”

Season two of The Tourist arrives on BBC on Monday, January 1 at 9pm.
