Her life story has shocked the world.
In a recent interview with Vulture, the director of Abducted in Plain Sight, Skye Borgman, addressed some of the main questions that audiences had after seeing the startling documentary.
The filmmaker also stressed the fact that despite the horrific events that unfolded, Jan Broberg is an “amazing, incredibly strong, and wonderful woman” because she has refused to let Robert Berchtold’s heinous crimes define who she is.
As stated previously, the documentary is not an easy watch because it deals with paedophilia, abduction, sexual assault, kidnapping, rape, mental torture, manipulation, and the breakdown of a family.
In case you haven’t seen it, the documentary tells the story of Jan Broberg, a girl who was kidnapped not once, but twice, in the 1970s by a family friend named Robert Berchtold, who manipulated her and raped her repeatedly.
Aside from sexually molesting and brainwashing Jan, Berchtold also seduced both of her parents, Mary Ann and Bob, to manipulate them into giving him access to their young daughter.
Both of Jan’s parents were also romantically involved with Berchtold and even after he abducted their daughter, they both stayed in contact with him.
Throughout the course of the startling documentary, Jan’s bravery in retelling her story is remarkable and rather than let these horrific crimes define her life, Jan has channeled her experiences towards helping other victims of sexual assault.
As we learned in the documentary, Jan frequently gives talks to help those that have been in similar situations and she’s also and writing a book about her experiences – designed to help other victims of sexual abuse.
Aside from this, it turns out that Jan Broberg Felt also has a very established career in film and TV.
In terms of her film CV, she can boast about appearing in Iron Man 3, We Are Your Friends, and Maniac with Elijah Wood. She has also starred in TV shows like Everwood, Touched by an Angel, and Promised Land.
