JOE meets Matt Damon to talk Jason Bourne, his Irish visit & getting revenge on Ben Affleck

Paul Moore

Bourne is back.

It’s crazy to think that it has been 14 years since Jason Bourne was plucked out of the Mediterranean Sea to reinvent Hollywood action films.

The Bourne Identity was the rarest of things, an intelligent and breakneck thriller that somehow managed to creep under the cinematic radar and find an adoring audience.

Paul Greengrass’ follow-ups, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, expertly built on the themes and set-pieces that we all loved in Doug Liman’s original, but they also managed to untangle the web surrounding David Webb’s identity and the murky ethics surrounding the CIA’s Treadstone programme.

Audiences continue to love the Bourne films because they manage to combine jaw-dropping action, bone-shuddering fights and a very gritty aesthetic with an intricate plot and believable characters.

The new installment, Jason Bourne, is a real treat for fans of the franchise and, as always, Matt Damon is the centre of attention.

Damon’s wonderful take on a character that’s searching for the truth in the world of covert espionage has really struck a chord with audiences and, after meeting the man himself, we’re happy to say that the biggest movie star on the planet might also be the nicest man on the planet.

Take a look as he chats with Paul Moore about his time in Dublin, being Bourne again and exacting some payback on his good friend Ben Affleck.

Enjoy…

Jason Bourne is released in Irish cinemas on 27 July
