Joker sequel in the works as director Todd Phillips eyes more DC origin films

Joker sequel

Big news for anyone who loved Joker.

So, Joker. Ever heard of it?

It was the movie that came out this year about a scary clown (not Pennywise), that absolutely EVERYONE on earth felt one way or another about.

It smashed all sorts of records at the box office, so much so that it would be pointless to even start discussing them, but long story short – it was a massive success.

Which is probably why it looks like a sequel to the movie is in the works, with director Todd Phillips eyeing up more DC origin films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips is “likely” to re-team with star Joaquin Phoenix on a follow-up movie, with sources suggesting that Phillips has also requested the rights to develop a portfolio of DC characters’ origin stories.

The same sources reported that despite Warner Bros. being extremely protective of the DC Universe, Phillips did emerge from the meeting with the rights to at least one other DC story.

Speculation has already begun among fans regarding what character or story it could be.

It’s also looking increasingly likely that Phillips will reprise his role as director for a second Joker outing (he and Scott Silver, who penned the movie’s screenplay, will also script the follow-up).

Between this, and the unrelated Batman movie on the way, things are starting to look quite bright in the DC Universe.
