The show's writer and director also gave their thoughts on the possibility.
In case we haven't made it abundantly clear, we absolutely loved Mare Of Easttown.
But one of the reasons we love it as much as we do is because it feels like a complete story. One and done and leave it as it is, no need to revisit.
Remember what happened when we all started demanding a second season of Big Little Lies? And True Detective? Yeah, we'd all rather forget those, wouldn't we?
On the other hand, we do love Mare and all of her friends, family, and potential future enemies in Easttown, so if there is a possibility of spending more time with them, who are we to say no to that?
Well, it turns out that Kate Winslet, series writer Bad Inglesby, and series director Craig Zobel have all been asked those very same questions.
Winslet first, who told TV Line the following:
"I would absolutely love to play Mare again. I miss her. I really do. It’s the strangest thing. I feel like I’m in mourning. It was an absolutely wonderful role… There’s something very addictive about Mare, because she’s so outrageous and lovable and brilliant and real, you know? I loved playing her."
Next up is Inglesby, who told The Hollywood Reporter this:
"It was written as a limited, and it ends — there’s no more mystery to be solved. Kate and I, if we could crack a story that we were really proud of and felt like it was a deserving second chapter in Mare’s journey, then maybe.
"I haven’t cracked that yet; I don’t know what that is, honestly. But if there was a world in which we were convinced, this is a continuation of the story that honours the first chapter and does things an audience will appreciate, then maybe. But as of right now, I have no idea what that could be."
And, last but not least, Zobel told TV line that Mare is "an amazing character, so I would be excited to see" a second season. But he followed that up by also saying he liked Easttown specifically because it was a mini-series.
So it does appear there is a lot of love for the show, but a lot of hesitancy for a sequel, because nobody would want to screw that up, considering how well received the show has been.
