The Mayo man is heading back to Cork’s Red FM…

In a shock announcement, Today FM have just confirmed that lunchtime presenter Keith Cunningham AKA KC is unfortunately leaving the station at the end of March for family reasons. The natural pull of his loved ones in Cork, has meant a very difficult commute for him from Crosshaven every Monday morning.

KC has been an immense talent for the station ever since he joined Today FM back in 2010, to present his highly popular night-time show.  He took over the competitive lunchtime slot in November 2012 and has spent the last 14 months entertaining 130,000 listeners with a great mix of guests, music, features and fun.

He will be taking up a role with his former employer, Red FM, from April next.

In a very personal and touching statement, KC commented on his decision for the move, “I’ve been commuting from my home in Cork to Dublin every week for over three years  now and being away from my two baby daughters and my fiancée  Rachel so much, was getting far too difficult. I’m leaving my dream gig for my dream family, I think most people would do the same.

“Today FM has been the most incredible radio station to work for. Being on a daytime schedule with Ian Dempsey, Ray D’Arcy, Tony Fenton and Matt Copper has been amazing.  I’m returning to Cork to take up a new radio presenter and management role, and to be a professional Daddy.”

Today FM’s CEO, Peter McPartlin wished KC well on this new venture, “I would like to thank KC for his fantastic contribution to Today FM’s dynamic programming and wish him the very best.  We will miss his enthusiasm, generosity, talent and infectious personality.”

Today FM have not announced plans of a replacement for KC, but can confirm the station will guarantee to maintain its high standard of programming to its listeners every day.

Here at JOE.ie we wish KC and his family the very best of luck with his exciting new move and we fully expect to be allowed to crash on his sofa the next time we visit Cork… we’re barred from all of the hotels you see.
