Lakelands, the 2022 Irish sports drama with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is on TV tonight.
The movie sees Saipan star Éanna Hardwicke play Cian, an aspiring GAA star in a small Midlands town in Ireland. He suffers a potentially career-ending injury after being assaulted on a night out.
In a place where Gaelic football is a religion and identity is defined by what you can do on the pitch, Cian must come to terms with what has happened to him, and rediscover who he is without the sport.
During this time, he reconnects with Grace (House of Guinness' Danielle Galligan), an old acquaintance who left the area for England, but has returned.
Also featuring Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside), Lorcan Cranitch (The Dig), and the late and great Gary Lydon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Lakelands was acclaimed for its authenticity, performances, and universal themes.
The movie picked up the Best Irish Film prize at the Galway Film Fleadh, before being nominated for four Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs).
Having helped put rising Irish stars Galligan and Hardwicke on the map, Lakelands is airing on TV tonight on RTÉ2 at 9.35pm. It's also streaming on Prime Video and the RTÉ Player.
