Tributes pour in for Lance Reddick as The Wire star dies aged 60

The actor will appear in the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4.

Lance Reddick, known for his role as Cedric Daniels in The Wire, has passed away from natural causes, according to his agent. He was 60.

The actor, who started his screen career in the 90’s, is also known for his roles in Fringe, Bosch and his many video game appearances including the Destiny and Horizon series.

Reddick’s sudden death has sent shockwaves around the industry, with many posting tributes online. Among them was his co-star from The Wire, Wendell Pierce, who said the Baltimore-born actor was “a man of great strength and grace.”

Reddick played Charon in the John Wick series alongside Keanu Reeves since the first instalment in 2014. He will appear in the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4 which releases later this month.

He also reprised the role for the spin-off movie Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, which has yet to announce a release date.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick,” said Reeves and director Chad Stahelski in a statement. “He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”

Ian McShane, who plays Winston in the films, said: “Total shock and disbelief. Lance was a wonderful human being and a wonderful colleague. My deepest condolences, peace and love to his wife, Stephanie, and all his family.”

A number of posthumous performances will be seen in the coming months as Reddick had finished filming multiple other projects. Among them are Disney+ series Percy Jackson and The Olympians, where he will play Zeus.

He also stars in the upcoming Shirley Chisholm biopic Shirley about America’s first Black congresswoman. Additionally, he features in the upcoming White Men Can’t Jump reboot starring Jack Harlow.

Reddick is survived by his his wife, Stephanie, and their children Yvonne and Christopher.
