The filmmaker's last movie will be one of the most anticipated of all time.
Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has said numerous times throughout his career that he wants to retire from directing movies after making ten.
And with the release of his last film - 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - Tarantino has made nine (if you count Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 as one big epic), which means his next cinematic offering will be his last.
As such, anticipation for the project is huge and now The Hollywood Reporter claims to have the first details about the upcoming picture.
The outlet states, according to sources, that Tarantino is prepping to direct a script he has written titled The Movie Critic. It is said to be set in late 1970s Los Angeles and to have a female lead character.
Given the movie's title and time period, there has been speculation that it will focus on Pauline Kael, an American film critic who wrote for The New Yorker from 1968 to 1991 and is considered one of the most influential reviewers of all time.
Tarantino is known to be a fan of Kael's work, with her serving as an inspiration for his recently released non-fiction book Cinema Speculation.
Though The Hollywood Reporter states that the movie does not have a studio home as of yet, the outlet states that Tarantino is looking to direct it this Autumn.
The writer-director has previously said he only wants to direct ten movies as he believes filmmakers generally get worse as they get older. Speaking on the Pure Cinema Podcast in 2021, he told the show: “To actually end your career on a decent movie is rare. To end it with, like, a good movie is kind of phenomenal.”
However, while Tarantino plans to retire from directing movies, he has discussed in the past possibly working in TV, literature and theatre.
