The new Irish film could be something very special.

You’re about to hear a lot about In The Land Of Saints And Sinners. The new Irish movie has been confirmed to be getting its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival this September.

We’d like to take you back to the Venice Film Festival in 2022, where The Banshees of Inisherin also had its world premiere, and was greeted to a fifteen-minute standing ovation from the audience.

So for this new Irish movie to get its big debut at the same festival, comparisons with last year’s big Oscar magnet are going to happen, the isolated Irish location, and the incredibly stacked Irish cast, including some Banshees alumni.

In The Land Of Saints And Sinners is fronted by Liam Neeson, and will be joined by Colm Meaney (The Snapper), Ciarán Hinds (Belfast), Conor MacNeill (Industry), Desmond Eastwood (Normal People), Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Sarah Greene (Bad Sisters) and Seamus O’Hara (the Oscar-winning short An Irish Goodbye).

The movie is produced by Netflix, and their official plot synopsis is: “In a remote Irish village, a damaged Finbar (Neeson) is forced to fight for redemption after a lifetime of sins, but what price is he willing to pay? In the land of saints and sinners, some sins can’t be buried.”

The movie is directed by three-time Oscar-nominee Robert Lorenz, who has produced much of Clint Eastwood’s recent output, including American Sniper, Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby.

When JOE recently caught up with Colm Meaney and expressed our excitement for the upcoming project, he told us the following: “Meaney told us: “Very good script. It’s got Liam [Neeson], it’s got Kerry Condon – my favourite woman in the world. Ciarán Hinds. It’s a great cast and a great script, so yeah, fingers crossed. High hopes for it.”

According to IMDb, we could see In The Land Of Saints and Sinners arrive for a limited run in cinemas on Friday 19 October this year, before landing on Netflix soon afterwards. Watch this space…
